Tim Cain, one of the creators behind Fallout, has created dozens of games over the last 30 years. An RPG legend, Cain has already retired once, but quickly returned to game development to work on The Outer Worlds.

While Cain has returned to Obsidian to work on a brand-new RPG IP, which we know absolutely nothing about, this upcoming project may end up being his last title. Speaking in the latest episode of his long-running, informative YouTube series, the iconic game creator explained that he may only make one more game to bookend his career.

In the Fallout icon’s latest video, he explained that his stint on YouTube is likely nearing its end. “The channel is probably nearing the point where I see it being done,” the creator said. “I think I’ve explained to you the game industry as much as I can, I’ve told all my stories—the fun ones and not-so-fun ones, and you’ve heard it all”.

While the creator’s YouTube channel is currently celebrating its third anniversary, Cain suggests that there might not be a celebration next year. “I think the chance of there being a fourth anniversary video is small,`’ he said. `’It’s not zero. Certainly not 100%.”

As Cain believes his time telling stories about game development is over, the game designer is also seemingly ready to hang up his hat and actually retire this time. “I think I am going to make one more game before I retire again for the second time,” he said.

With that said, Cain hints that they may end up not retiring again after all, saying, “who knows” after hinting at his next retirement. As with any creative force—whether that’s John Williams, Hayao Miyazaki, or any other—they always come back to make something new. And it seems that Cain will likely follow the same trend.

Cain is currently working full-time at Obsidian Entertainment on a brand-new game, although it may not release this generation. The developer recently served as a creative consultant on The Outer Worlds 2, an RPG which took Obsidian six years to complete, and this next game could take even longer.

Hopefully, Cain’s next game will be yet another choice-based RPG that combines the creator’s thirty-odd years of experience into one last hurrah. On the other hand, it would be nice if his next game isn’t actually his last.
