Fortnite reveals extended downtime ahead of new update

Fortnite extended downtime

,

Epic Games is gearing up to release another Fortnite update. This will be the third major update of the season and as such, lots of new content will be added to the game. However, before we can play it, we will have to wait for the downtime to end.

Unfortunately, the downtime will last longer than usual. Epic generally takes Fortnite servers down for under two hours to make sure that everything goes smoothly, but today will be different. Instead of two, we can expect servers to be down for four hours.

How long will Fortnite servers be down?

Fortnite servers will go down on Thursday morning at 4 AM Eastern Time. Right after, Epic Games will release an update on every platform, as it will be rolled out periodically in every part of the world. However, even if the update finishes within 10 minutes, Fortnite won’t be playable until its servers get back up.

According to the latest status from Epic, Fortnite servers will get back up around 8 AM ET. This means that they will be down for at least four hours, which comes as no surprise considering how big the update is.

It’s important to note that the Fortnite developer has been wrong about the downtime estimate in the past. While the estimate is usually somewhat accurate, Epic generally misses it by 20 to 30 minutes. On top of this, an update that arrived in early September was also supposed to have a two-hour downtime, yet Fortnite servers got back up after two hours.
