Almost nine years after its release, Fortnite Save the World is going free-to-play. Epic Games originally planned to make the PvE mode free a few years ago, but that plan was delayed. Now, we are only a month away from the big free-to-play launch and a massive content update.

Save the World will go free on April 16. In the meantime, Fortnite players can sign up to help reach the community goal and unlock three rewards. The final reward is the Snowstriker Hero, and it will be unlocked after a million players register for the launch event.

When will Fortnite Save the World become free?

Fortnite Save the World will become free on April 16, shortly after the release of Chapter 7 – Season 2. The game mode will be available on almost every gaming console, with the exception of the original Nintendo Switch. It will also remain unavailable on smartphones and tablets.

In the meantime, Epic Games is offering a couple of free rewards through the Community Goal. To register for the event and earn rewards, players need to visit the Community Goal website and sign in with their Epic Games account. By doing so, they can earn a banner (300,000 registrations), a spray (700,000 registrations), and the Snowstrike hero (one million registrations).

All Community Goal participants will receive the hero on April 16.

According to several leakers, Epic may be working on a big Save the World content update for April 16 as well. The contents of the update are currently unknown, but it may bring a major overhaul to the mode and a new zone. With Season 2 of Battle Royale launching on March 20, we will likely get more information soon.

The next season will also increase the price of Fortnite V-Bucks. Fortunately, players can still earn free V-Bucks and grab a few free Fortnite skins.
