Fortnite players in several parts of the world may have a reason to be excited. Epic Games is reportedly testing new server locations, and if these tests lead to a wider rollout, many players could end up with better ping.

Epic is testing servers in some regions that desperately need them, including South Africa. Right now, most players from African continent play on either Europe or Middle East servers. However, with the potential addition of servers in Cape Town, the situation could drastically improve for millions of Fortnite players.

Fortnite is testing new server locations, including South Africa

According to prominent Fortnite leaker Hypex, Epic Games is currently testing several new Fortnite servers around the world. The reported locations include South Africa, Spain, India, France, Belgium, Sweden, Malaysia, Chile, Taiwan, and Singapore.

Here are all the locations mentioned in the report:

  • South Africa – Cape Town
  • Spain – Zaragoza
  • India – Mumbai
  • France – Paris
  • Belgium – Brussels
  • Sweden – Stockholm
  • Malaysia – Kuala Lumpur
  • Chile – Santiago
  • Taiwan – Taipei
  • Singapore – Singapore

The servers are reportedly hosted through AWS and Google Cloud. However, the veteran leaker noted that some of these may be new server locations, while others could simply be routing tests to determine which datacenter players should connect to.

If Epic moves forward with these server locations, the biggest benefit would be lower ping. This would be especially important for players in regions that currently have to connect to distant servers.

South African players, for example, have requested local Fortnite servers for years. A Cape Town server could make matches feel much smoother for players in the country and nearby regions. The same applies to players in India, Malaysia, Chile, Taiwan, and Singapore, where a closer server could reduce latency.
