With the release of Fortnite Chapter 7 in 2019, Epic Games added skill-based matchmaking. Before that, all matchmaking was random, as beginners often faced top-tier players in their lobbies. Back in Chapter 1, the community wanted Epic to add a new matchmaking system, but unfortunately, this has backfired.
For the past few years, many Fortnite players have claimed that the matchmaking system is broken. Considering how easily it can be tricked, this is not a surprise. The latest trick even allows players to get weaker opponents in every match, which further ruins the system.
How to get easier matches in Fortnite?
By default, PC players play Fortnite through the Epic Games Launcher. However, an alternate version of the popular video game is available on the Microsoft Store. According to players who have tried it out, this version of the game has easier lobbies, since it’s mostly intended for handheld devices.
While this trick makes lobbies easier for Microsoft Store users, it makes matchmaking unfair for handheld players. Unfortunately, this is not something that can be easily fixed. Almost every multiplayer game has matchmaking issues, from Overwatch and Marvel Rivals to Fortnite and Warzone.
Epic has made numerous changes to Fortnite, so we’re wondering if the game developer will eventually remove skill-based matchmaking. This is one of the main complaints the community has, although it’s questionable if the old system would make the situation better.
In the past, Epic even tried separating lobbies according to input devices, so that controller players would only play against those who use a controller. Unfortunately, this did not make things any better. Having SBMM lobbies for ranked could possibly be a good solution, while non-ranked modes would use the Chapter 1 matchmaking. In theory, this would be a good compromise, so we will see if Epic implements it in the future.
