While Rockstar’s long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 is launching on consoles later this year, the GTA 6 PC release date has yet to be confirmed. However, according to a respected source, the PC version of the game will launch faster than expected.
Considering Rockstar’s prior release schedules, it was expected that fans would wait at least a year before the GTA 6 PC port would hit Steam. However, in a report by GamesBeat, it’s claimed that the PC version of the open-world crime drama will release in Q1 2027.
The claim comes from multiple sources close to GamesBeat who claimed that the PC port of the next Grand Theft Auto will come faster than expected. As Rockstar battles leaks and a rabid fanbase, the new game will seemingly launch on PC slightly before the still-unannounced GTA 6 Online mode goes live.
While also not confirmed by Rockstar, Twitch.TV CEO Dan Clancy claimed that GTA 6 Online is launching sometime in 2027, and that the streaming service will benefit a lot from the game’s launch. With Rockstar now embracing roleplay servers and other modded servers, it seems that the studio may actually be looking to launch Online and the PC version of the game during a similar timeframe.
Of course, this would also result in the biggest possible launch sales of online microtransactions, if Rockstar is keeping the same Shark Card system as GTA V’s GTA Online system. Considering the sheer wealth that the previous game still generates to this day, so much so that the online mode will still be supported after the new game’s launch, that would make a lot of sense.
At the time of writing, none of this has been confirmed by Rockstar Games. As far as official confirmation goes, GTA 6 is still scheduled to release on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, with a PC release sometime in the future.
Nevertheless, if this information is accurate, this would mark the fastest PC release for Rockstar since Max Payne 3. The studio took around a year and a half to bring GTA V to PC, and just over a year to bring Red Dead Redemption 2 to the platform. It also took well over a decade for the original Red Dead Redemption to come to PC.
Despite the delayed GTA 6 PC release date, Rockstar’s upcoming game is expected to be the biggest entertainment launch of all time. Despite the short amount of footage of the game, pre-orders have reportedly eclipsed all records prior to release.
