Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 Online mode is seemingly launching sometime in 2027, according to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.

While GTA 6’s single-player campaign is set to launch this November, the game will lack a multiplayer mode. In fact, Rockstar has yet to directly address the potential multiplayer mode at all, instead focusing on the campaign’s release and continued support of GTA V’s multiplayer.

In an interview with Bloomberg, however, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy discussed game publishers delaying their games into 2027 to avoid Rockstar’s new game. However, they explained that they will have even more competition in 2027 due to the release of the game’s multiplayer component.

“We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators,” Clancy told the outlet, adding that they will “see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer”.

Clancy also explained that the viewership numbers across Twitch as a whole will likely see a huge rise in engagement because of the launch of GTA 6, and then again with the release of GTA 6 Online. “It absolutely will spike the overall viewership meaningfully. How much, I have no idea,” he said.

As far as Rockstar and Take-Two are concerned, the official word on the game doesn’t mention multiplayer at all. “GTA 6 is a single-player title and is due to release this November,” the publisher said, although everyone is expecting GTA 6 Online to launch in the foreseeable future.

It’s not known why Rockstar has delayed GTA 6 Online’s release date so far after the release of the campaign. Some rumours, although they are completely unsubstantiated, have claimed the multiplayer component in free-to-play. Others speculate it’s to make sure people play the single-player campaign.

There’s also a hope that GTA 6 Online could tie in with the game’s PC version’s release. At the game’s November launch, the game will be a console-only title, although Take-Two has stressed the importance of the PC community. Furthermore, Rockstar has now encouraged roleplay PC servers for the game’s predecessor, which could continue into the new game.

Nevertheless, it seems obvious that GTA 6 Online is simply an eventuality, especially after the juggernaut success of its predecessor’s multiplayer offering. With an apparent release date of 2027, it will likely be another runaway success.
