Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani has revealed that there are no plans for an extended universe based around Helldivers 2.

Extended universe media has been a major part of many popular game franchises. While books for DOOM and Resident Evil existed prior, I always think of Microsoft’s control of Halo as the first major transmedia experiment in games with The Fall of Reach book releasing weeks before the original game.

In 2026, transmedia is more present than ever. For example, Halo has frequently released new books, Ubisoft has released countless Assassin’s Creed books, and even Baldur’s Gate 3 is joining in with novels and comic book spin-offs and prequels. But what about Helldivers 2?

With an official Helldivers movie in production starring Jason Momoa, which Jorjani has asked fans to calm down about, some fans have wondered whether or not there will be any extended universe content for the series. At least, enough fans for it to be a not-infrequent question in the game’s official Discord server.

In response to one fan, Jorjani explained that any extended universe offerings are “a question for PlayStation”. While the Arrowhead CEO hinted that Sony may have grander plans for Helldivers 2, Arrowhead is not focused on any of that, instead putting its efforts entirely towards making a new game.

‘I’m sure they have a lot of plans,” Jorjani continued to tell fans in reponse. “We’re trying to make a game.”

It wouldn’t be too surprising to see PlayStation take the Helldivers world and churn out books and comics. After all, Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted have both seen additive stories in expanded media before, and Helldivers 2 does have a world that fans wish to see more of.

With that said, I can’t be the only one that sees the world of Helldivers as purposefully thin on the side of lore. While there are interesting stories that could be told in the background of the games’ conflicts, the point of the ongoing conflict is that player action fuels the narrative. Do we need a book about the The Fall of Malevelon Creek when we fought through Robo-Vietnam ourselves?

Well, Helldivers 2 has been one of the most successful PlayStation-published games this generation, so it’s more than likely we’ll see something based on the game eventually. Outside of the games and the upcoming movie, it’s not hard to imagine a Dark Horse comic book series or an episode of Secret Level one day.
