Helldivers 2 is one of the best co-op games of all time, especially now that I can get my Halo: ODST fix thanks to the new legendary warbond.
As one of the best co-op games, it would be awesome to play the game in split-screen, allowing gamers with just one console to play the game together. Right now, that’s not possible, but could it be?
In a discussion on the Helldivers 2 Discord server, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani commented on the potential of split-screen co-op. While the feature seemed impossible to fans due to the heavy nature of the game, Jorjani explained that it actually is doable.
“It’s technically feasible but I have no idea if its a feature ppl really want [sic],” the Arrowhead CEO told fans (via Gamerant).
Jorjani explained that the feature is currently “on our ‘to investigate’ list”, teasing that the feature will be looked into no matter what. After all, if it is actually impossible, the devs will likely just tell people on Discord.
Split-screen has been a mostly forgotten feature of co-op games over the last few years. Hell, even Halo Infinite doesn’t have it for its single player – although it does for its multiplayer offerings. It would be nice to see a major release actually promote split-screen again, even if it’s just to satisfy my old gamer brain.
Following the recent ODST Warbond release – which is so good I almost tear up when I play it – Arrowhead is also gearing up to release another massive update.
Into the Unjust, the next major update for the game, will allow players to go into the Terminid hives and take the fight to the bugs. After bombing all those bug nurseries with underground nukes, maybe we’ll get to actually see one.
