Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch has announced that the studio’s latest horror game, Hellraiser Revival, is performing well.
The game, which launched to mixed reception by critics, has struck a chord with horror fans. Backed by Clive Barker, who publicly announced their pride for the project, the horror game is currently hitting with a 94% positive reception on Steam.
In a statement on LinkedIn, the Saber Interactive CEO confirmed that the game “has been performing extremely well on PC and console”. Karch explained that the game’s success further cements Saber’s plan to create new AA experiences based on existing IP, such as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, Jurassic Park: Survival, and more.
“The game is testament to the notion that an established IP and solid AA development with controlled costs can produce great results and high user scores,” Karch said. He added: “I believe a greater focus on these middle-market IP-driven products rather than AAA behemoths is the future to maintaining growth and momentum in the game industry.”
Karch explained that “there will always be a place for properly developed and budgeted AAA experience”, while explaining that AA games are simply less risky and offer better returns for studios such as Saber.
“A AA game tha provides a great immersive experience for a lower price is less risky and can provide much greater returns on average,” Karch said.
As for Hellraiser Revival, Karch explained that it’s a sign of what Saber is promising for the games industry. “This is the first in a series of releases by Saber that will continue to prove out our methodology,” the developer said.
While Saber has been in the middle of some controversies, namely the use of AI for its new Rideshare Simulator, the studio has done well with its output of AA titles. From the brilliant World War Z to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the studio is continuing to create intriguing new games based on beloved IPs.
Alongside the aforementioned Jurassic Park: Survivor, Saber is also working on a brand-new John Wick game with a targeted release date of 2028, Additionally, the studio, or conglomerate of studios, is also working on a full remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, although we don’t know when that game will actually release.
