While Stellar Blade developer Shift Up may be working on a full-fledged sequel in the form of Blood Rain, the studio might still return to the first game to give long-time players more content.

At least, that’s what Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung-tae has teased in a new interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer. In a discussion about the game’s brand-new Nintendo Switch 2 port, the director teased that support for the game isn’t over.

“It’s not finished yet,” the developer said. “I want to do anything for all of you who are playing the game. There might be some changes in Stellar Blade when the sequel comes out, and we hope you will continue to love the game.”

Hyung-tae didn’t confirm what that style of content could potentially include or how substantial the content will be. This means that the game could receive anything from new costume DLC to brand-new missions that tie in with the upcoming sequel, Blood Rain.

Nevertheless, it seems that Shift Up is dedicated to continued support for Stellar Blade despite launching the game over two years ago. The third-person action game has sold very well and still has an active community across social media with many excited to jump back into the game to experience its Beyonetta collaboration outfits.

With that said, fans would likely be happier with more level-base content, although it’s more likely that additional content would simply involve crossover costumes from Blood Rain being back-ported into the original game.

As for Blood Rain, the game is still in heavy development at Shift Up. Little is known about the game itself other than the fact it follows protagonist Evie in a new apocalyptic sci-fi city based on Chongqing, China. The combat is expected to be very similar to the first game with an emphasis on dodging and high-speed hack-and-slash combat, and players will be able to unlock outfits for its protagonist.

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain does not currently have a release date, but the developers are aiming for the game to hit similar performance to the original on the same hardware with improved graphical fidelity. The game is also being developed on Unreal Engine 5 instead of the original’s Unreal Engine 4.
