Marvel Rivals hasn’t been out for even a year, yet it already has 41 characters. The game launched with 33 heroes, split into three different categories. Now, eight months later, NetEase has further expanded the hero lineup, with Blade being the most recent addition.
As previously revealed, the Marvel Rivals creator will keep adding one new character every month, and it appears that some of these characters will be original. Despite Marvel having thousands of characters that could be released to the hero shooter, NetEase was given a green light to make original heroes for the game. In a way, it appears that the game developer may give up its biggest strength.
Marvel Rivals has permission to add original characters
In an interview with MP1st, Guangguang, the creative director of Marvel Rivals, spoke about original characters. He was asked if the company had permission to add these characters to the game, to which he replied affirmatively. “Yes, we are allowed to introduce original characters in Marvel Rivals,” Guangguang said.
Despite revealing the potential introduction of original characters, he did not specify if any of them are already in development. “Stay tuned,” Guangguang said, neither denying nor confirming the addition of a new character in the near future.

With Season 4 launching on September 12, there is a chance that NetEase will release the first original character in Marvel Rivals. However, considering that Marvel has thousands of heroes, adding originals would be an odd move. After all, this is the game’s biggest strength, and popular comic book characters give it a huge advantage over other hero shooters.
Interestingly, NetEase has already prepared lots of new content in advance. In fact, the game creator has developed new characters for the next 12 months, and it will be interesting to see which new heroes will come out.
