NetEase has recently announced a major update aimed at solving one of the biggest problems in Marvel Rivals. Players who intentionally lose games have caused significant issues competitive play, but fortunately, that should soon come to an end.

In a new update, the game developer confirmed harsher penalties for throwers. On top of this, Marvel Rivals will also compensate players who have been affected by throwers, which should improve the competitive experience.

One of the biggest reasons for this change was the launch of Intlist, a controversial website that allows users to post bounties on players accused of throwing matches in competitive games like Marvel Rivals, Overwatch, and Valorant.

Marvel Rivals may have finally solved one of its biggest issues

Ranking up in Marvel Rivals is relatively quick, especially due to Chrono Shields, which protect the player’s rank. Despite this, playing in higher divisions has been frustrating, as the hero shooter has too many players who lose on purpose. To make matters worse, the launch of Intlist has made this an even bigger issue, as players were paid to throw games.

Amid the controversy, NetEase has introduced a new detection system designed to better identify and punish intentional throwing. “This system uses a combination of big data analysis and manual review to enhance the detection of malicious throwing behavior,” NetEase revealed in a post on X.

Furthermore, the Marvel Rivals creator announced additional penalties for throwers. Also, the change involves a ranked point compensation system for affected players.

Under the new Victim Compensation Protocol, players who lose ranked points because a teammate was later confirmed to be intentionally throwing will have their lost points automatically restored. Once the review process confirms the throwing, the system will issue the compensation directly to impacted players through in-game mail.

Despite Marvel Rivals Season 7 being less than two weeks away, NetEase released the changes right away, and they are now live. Once a new season comes out, we expect even more improvements that will make the game more enjoyable.
