Marvel Rivals and Overwatch have competed against each other for the title of the best hero shooter for more than a year. Overwatch director even admitted that the competing game made Blizzard come up with bigger and better updates. Now, both games are hriving with active player bases.

Overwatch launched long before Marvel Rivals, so it’s no surprise that NetEase drew inspiration from Blizzard’s hero shooter. However, there are still some things that Overwatch does better, and these would greatly improve Marvel Rivals. One example is the system that displays a message whenever a player switches heroes.

Marvel Rivals feels incomplete without this Overwatch feature

In Overwatch, a chat message appears whenever a player switches heroes. As a result, players can easily readjust their team compositions and fill the gap created by the switch. Unfortunately, Marvel Rivals has no such feature.

Since NetEase’s game features a 6v6 combat, team compositions are essential. No matter how strong individual players are, matches are almost always decided by team synergy. Because of this, teams need to build compositions that can counter their opponents. Both Overwatch and Marvel Rivals allow hero switching on the fly, but the former has implemented it better.

At the very least, NetEase should implement a feature that notifies team members if their teammate switches to a different role. After all, a switch from Mantis to Angela or Iron Man can significantly impact team balance. In many cases, these shifts lead to losses that could be avoided with better communication.

With Marvel Rivals Season 8 coming in mid-May, NetEase will certainly release new features and improvements. Hopefully, a hero switch message will be one of them.

In the meantime, players can unlock several free skins using Marvel Rivals codes, including a new skin for Thor. Emma Frost, the winner of last year’s Hellfire Gala vote, also has a free skin, which can be unlocked through a limited-time event.
