Metal Gear Solid Delta modders have already found a way round the 60FPS cap, added a no HUD mode and… replaced Naked Snake with GTA’s CJ

CJ in metal gear solid Delta

It was only a matter of time. After Konami revealed that Metal Gear Solid: Delta Snake Eater was going to be capped to a ‘mere’ 60FPS on PC, it’s taken just a couple of days for a workaround to appear. But that’s not all…

As part of a new fan-made update, PC players can now experience Delta at 120FPS, a big improvement on the previously capped 60FPS. In the same file, ultrawide and narrower support is also bundled in, as well as Splash Screen skips. This will go down a storm for those running more powerful rigs, kneecapped by the previous capped performance. For the console players among you, you’re still stuck with the defaults.

Elsewhere, and we’re also starting to see more fun mods make their way into the game. Courtesy of Editor Kos, GTA San Andreas main character CJ has been successfully brought into the game, replacing the protagonist Naked Snake. And yes, before you ask, the mod works for the in-game cutscenes also. Expect other gaming characters to make their way into Delta in the coming weeks.

Over on Nexus Mods, a ‘no HUD’ file has appeared, making for a far more ‘cinematic’ experience. The mod ‘utilizes ShaderToggler to make the HUD & Effects togglable’, the description reads. As a lifelong MGS myself, there is a surprising amount of on-screen clutter, so this mod is most welcome.

It’s certainly encouraging that the community is already actively engaging in MGS Delta modding, a real perk of it being powered by Unreal Engine 5. That being said, for those wanting to try the game on Steam Deck you may be waiting a long time before Delta becomes even remotely playable. MGS Delta is a bit of a mess on the Deck but given just how far away the handheld is from many of the game’s minimum requirements – and the fact it’s powered by Unreal 5, we doubt any mod could make a meaningful impact. Hopefully, in time, we’re proved wrong.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater arrives on August 28 for Pc, PS5 and Xbox, with early access available now.
