Konami has just released its long-awaited Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2. Following the original Volume 1 in 2023, the second collection has ripped Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots away from its PlayStation 3 exclusivity to a wealth of modern platforms, but Konami seemingly isn’t done.

While work is presumably ongoing on a new Metal Gear game following the Snake Eater remake last year, Konami is also reportedly working on a Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 3 that will include Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Rising: Revengeance

The information comes from VGC journalist Jordan Middler who claimed in an episode of the Nextlander Podcast that the third collection has been discussed at Konami. “The idea would be to do a third one with Revengeance and a cleaned-up version of V because that’s still not great on, that never got a fancy console version.”

Middler claimed that the remaster of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain would not be a monumentally different game from its release version. While MGS V is a fantastic game, it was left unfinished, but the remaster won’t go as far as to finish up Hideo Kojima’s cut content for modern platforms. “I think the idea would be to just do a 60fps version on modern consoles and tie that with Revengence,” the journalist said.

It’s worth noting that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain already runs at 60fps on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and that version is backward compatible on PS5 and Xbox Series. However, the game was stuck at 900p on Xbox One and 1080p on PS4, and neither version have received backward compatible upgrades on Xbox Series or PS5.

As for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, that title is an odd one. The game on PC does exhibit numerous issues that cause stuttering and cap the game to 59fps instead of 60fps. Additionally, the game is a locked 60fps on Xbox One and Xbox Series via backward compatibility, but the game is unavailable on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, which does make worthy of a re-release.

Middler did explain that the “third one would be the last one that they could do” while the team moves onto new titles or more Delta remakes of existing games. However, it’s not known if the remaster would bundle in other spin-off games such as Metal Gear Acid or rarer titles like The Twin Snakes as well.

Considering it took around three years for Konami to release its second Master Collection, we likely won’t see the potential Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 3 until sometime in 2029, if it’s happening at all. For my money, they should chuck in Portable Ops as well, and maybe even Social Ops, just for fun.
