It seems that NEXON’s long in-development Starcraft project is set to be revealed in the near future with Blizzard teasing the game ahead of BlizzCon 2026. While there are few details available for the game outside of the fact that it is a shooter, it seems that the game might be a single-player game.
While some have assumed that the upcoming shooter will be some form of Destiny-like MMO set within the Starcraft universe, it turns out that NEXON’s upcoming spin-off is instead set to be a third-person shooter.
In a video with Ryan Gillam about the upcoming StarCraft shooter, trusted games journalist Jason Schreier teased that the game is seemingly a single-player title. “It’s wild that we got the game that we got,” the journalist said, hinting towards a more single-player focus as both Blizzard and NEXON are now known for multiplayer, live-service titles.
“It’s kind of one of those things where, to me, I look at it and go, ‘well, if there’s ever any hope that anything is ever going to do this again, it kind of feels like Blizzard is one of the only places that could do it.”
Xbox and Blizzard insider Jez Corden doubled down on this in their own Sunday stream video. In the video, Corden explained that the game is a “single-player story kind of game” with “high-end graphics” with third-person shooter gameplay. “It kind of reminded me a bit of Space Marine 2,” he said.
While it may be a third-person single-player game, Corden did hint that the game will have some kind of multiplayer offering as well, although details are uncertain. “I don’t see why not. That’s Blizzard’s DNA,” he said. “But it does seem like there’s going to be a full-blown single-player and/or co-op campaign attached to it.”
On the topic of the game being a Destiny-like experience, Schreier explained that the game is very unlikely to follow in that trend, even with the death of Destiny 2 in the rearview mirror. “I wouldn’t count on this Starcraft game being a Destiny-like, I’ll say that,” he added.
Whatever the case, this is also seemingly just the start of a revival period for Starcraft. Following the upcoming shooter, NEXON is reportedly attempting to get permission to make Starcraft 3, a full-blown RTS game that fans have been waiting over a decade for.
Right now, there’s no official news on what this new shooter will actually be or when it will release. However, with Blizzard itself already teasing some form of Starcraft news, it does seem like BlizzCon 2026 will be worth watching if you’re a fan of the series.
