Resident Evil Requiem on Nintendo Switch 2 won’t use mouse controls as they made gameplay “too complicated”

The Nintendo Switch 2 is the fastest-selling console of all time, but not every release is keen to make use of its unique features. As it turns out, Capcom’s upcoming Switch 2 port of Resident Evil Requiem will also be turning down one of the system’s core features: mouse controls.

Currently used by very few games, the Nintendo Switch 2 mouse controls offer fine aiming options for players. At the time of writing, the Joy-Con mouse can be used in Fortnite, and will soon be usable in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but Resident Evil won’t be supporting the feature.

In an interview with Press Start, Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa explaiend that the team “tried” to make use of the feature, but found that it “confused” players. While the producer didn’t go into detail about how it confused players, it may be tied to the fact that players still need to press certain face buttons while using the controller as a mouse.

“Actually, we tried really hard to implement mouse controls for Nintendo Switch 2,” the producer explained. “When we did put it in, it confused and convoluted the gameplay and became too complicated.”

Nevertheless, the team is “using gyro instead”, offering players an additional way to aim that won’t be possible on every platform. While not as specific as mouse aiming, gyro aiming does provide major benefits for players who are good at using motion controls. (They can be a detriment if you’re a very shaky gamer.)

Just like Resident Evil 7, which still sells over a million copies every year, Resident Evil Requiem will be playable in first-person. With this in mind, mouse control aiming could make the game extremely easy, as anyone who has played 7 and Village on PC could attest to, but it is a shame to see the feature missing from the Switch 2 version.

Resident Evil Requiem launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27, 2026 alongside ports for the seventh and eighth mainline entries in the series.
