GSC Game World’s Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl launched in a less than satisfying state last year. However, in the months since the game’s rough 1.0 release, the studio has released significant updates to bring the game up to the level of polish fans expect.
Following major A-Life improvements, the arrival of new weapons, and more, GSC Game World is still working on the game ahead of its upcoming PS5 release and beyond. With a brand-new roadmap showing even more updates, there’s a lot of free content coming to the game, but what of its expansions?
In the past, GSC confirmed that Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl will have at least two major expansions as well as a post-launch multiplayer mode. Previously, the studio told VideoGamer that the game’s expansion will offer “fresh perspectives” on the Zone that will “surprise players”.
Talking to FRVR ahead of Gamescom, GSC explained that “the point stays true” regarding the game’s “fresh perspectives”, but the team is keeping its cards close to its chest on what exactly that means. However, DLC 1 has entered “active development” with progress proceeding on the first major expansion.
“We can reassure you the players are gonna get two quite impressively-sized add-ons in the future,” GSC told FRVR in a recent interview. “DLC 1 is in the active phase of the development now. We’re so eager to share more, but you should wait just a little bit longer.”
There’s still no proposed release date for when players will be able to get their hands on the first main expansion for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Right now, the main focus is on continued performance improvements, including the game’s major engine update to Unreal Engine 5.5.4.
“Stalker 2 continues receiving regular updates on all platforms – since the release, we [have] shipped 5 big patches and numerous smaller ones,” the developer told us. “You can expect this to continue in the future.”
Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl releases on PlayStation 5 on November 20, 2025. The game is currently available on PC and Xbox Series consoles. You can also play the game via Xbox Game Pass.
