Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis has shocked fans with the announcement of a physical release on PC. Even more shocking, instead of simply chucking a code in a box—like PlayStation will be doing for everything after January 2028—the game will be fully on-disc.

Physical PC game releases are extraordinarily rare nowadays, but there are still some games that release on disc. For example, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 launched with a physical release with ten discs, despite the fact that the game’s monumental updates and always-online functionality essentially mark them useless.

While physical PC games are a rarity nowadays, Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming release of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is releasing as a “full physical game” on the platform. Listed on Amazon, multiple physical releases for the game on PC are listed including a Deluxe Edition, Collector’s Edition, and Amazon Exclusive.

While all versions of the game on PC appear to come with a physical disc, the Amazon Exclusive version of the game confirms that version is definitively “full physical”. However, it’s unknown how many discs, or what type of disc, the game will launch on for PC gamers craving a physical copy of the game.

At the time of writing, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis asks for “80 GB available space”, which could fit on a single dual-layer 4K blu-ray disc. However, considering the fact that few PC players have access to 4K-capable blu-ray drives, the game could release on two standard dual-layer blu-rays or a large collection of standard DVDs.

Nevertheless, with PlayStation’s push to abandon physical media, and Xbox likely following suit, it’s nice to see some option for physical gamers. While PC will likely never be the haven for physical media ownership that consoles have been since the dawn of Steam, the fact that the platform can support discs is an option that future Collector’s Editions may need to shift to in the future.

It’s also worth noting that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will also have a physical release on every other platform. While delayed, the upcoming remake of the original game will launch on February 12, 2027.
