Creative Assembly may still be working on a behemoth of an RTS with Total War: Warhammer 40,000, a game that’s promising not to have a full-fledged sequel, but the studio is also planning additional support for its existing Total War: Warhammer game.
Releasing tomorrow, the game’s latest DLC, Lords of the End Times, is one of the biggest DLCs in the series’ 10-year history, bringing four new Legendary Lords into the Immortal Empires campaign alongside new units and features in a free update.
Despite the heft of content already within the RTS game, Creative Assembly isn’t ready to pull out. Speaking to PC Gamer, senior game director Richard Aldridge stated that the fantasy universe “has loads of larger than life characters that we’d still like to do” with “some factions and races in the world that we’ll maybe get the opportunity to do”.
“It’s a pretty good experience as it stands and we’ve put in some of the best and most notable characters people have wanted for a long, long time, but there are still other ones that I know a bunch of people would love to see, whether they’re legendary lords or legendary heroes,” Aldridge continued.
The game director explained that the Bhashiva campaign, which was added earlier this year, is a piece of content they never expected to be able to create. “That’s something that, in my wildest dreams, I’d never thought we’d have been able to do when we first started out, but wow, what a feeling to bring that, because it does just make this world even more exciting and vibrant”.
While Creative Assembly isn’t done with Total War: Warhammer anytime yet, Aldridge does seemingly tease that future DLCs may be smaller in scope than prior releases. At least, when compared to Lords of the End Times, new content will likely not be anywhere near as big.
Aldridge teases that the team will still bring the “odd crazy unit” alongside fixes, balance patches, and the occasional new future. In fact, in a separate article by the same outlet, associate design director Sean Macdonald added “there are a lot of things on our list” to improve, fix, and tweak, adding that “if you looked at things we made 10 years ago and what we make now, it’s generally better, by and large, but it does create this almost ouroboros of updating content infinitely”.
With that said, Aldridge promises the new DLC is “not the end”, adding that fans “can’t get rid of us that easily”. How much we’ll actually see, especially with the close arrival of the studio’s 40K RTS, is still unknown.
Total War: Warhammer – Lords of the End Times releases tomorrow on September 24, 2026 for PC.
