World of Warcraft: Midnight is a bold new expansion that launches alongside the brand-new player housing feature, adding even more to do in the world of Azeroth. While players will be able to buy and decorate homes for the first time, Blizzard is also making sure the feature is just as massively multiplayer as the rest of its online RPG.

Shown off at Gamescom alongside games like Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4, World of Warcraft: Midnight’s new player housing feature aims to bring a tonne of customisation to the game. Players will be able to find, loot and buy furniture and place them within their new abodes. Additionally, there’s options for clipping to make sure you’re not always stuck to annoying grids when playing chairs.

Essentially, this Sims-like feature makes the world of Azeroth feel more like a world. Other MMOs have introduced player housing as well with Zenimax Online Studios’ The Elder Scrolls Online making waves in that regard. (Although, personally, Lord of the Rings Online is my first thought when it comes to player housing in MMOs.)

Speaking to PC Gamer, Blizzard confirmed that player housing users will be able to save and export blueprints of their builds. At Gamescom, Blizzard employees explained that the feature will allow players to share their designs with other players either privately or through forums so that you can easily copy a certain décor you really like.

Player housing was first teased for World of Warcraft over nine months ago, and it’s almost here.

Of course, you will have to own the items used in the blueprints to make use of them with an imported file. At the time of writing, Blizzard hasn’t explained what happens if you import a blueprint without owning the items it makes use of. However, we’d expect that areas that require locked loot will simply be left blank.

Player housing aims to add a host of new options to World of Warcraft, although it’s not the only addition to the game with the Midnight expansion. Blizzard is also adding a new bounty hunting Prey system which allows select targets to interrupt you during the open world, quests and other activities for a challenging fight. In fact, beating some of these targets may also reward you with new furniture for your crib.
