Since launch, Yakuza develoepr Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has been a huge supporter of the Nintendo Switch 2. Already the platform has seen releases of Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 with Yakuza Kiwami 3 + Dark Tides coming to the platform on launch day.
However, a slew of other games in the long-running open-world beat-em-up series could come to the platform as well. Over the years, the studio has crafted turn-based RPGs, released remasters for almost every mainline game, and even made spin-off games in the form of Judgment and its sequel Lost Judgment.
In a video on the official Nintendo YouTube channel, RGG Studio Head Masayoshi Yokoyama teased that more games could come to the new Nintendo system if fans ask for them.
โWe’ve had Yakuza 0, 1, 2 and now 3. So, on Switch 2 with Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, we’re releasing everything that we can at the moment,โ Yokoyama said. โFrom here on, the number may increase if fans tell us more.”
Yokoyama also expressed a love for Nintendoโs newest hardware, not only for its portability but also for its power. โWhen the Switch 2 came out, the game actually worked because the performance has also improved, so I decided from the beginning that I wanted to port the game [Kiwami 3] over no matter what.โ The Ryu Ga Gotoku studio head explained that the system has now created โan era where anyone can playโ.
Considering the sheer popularity of the series on the handheld, as well as in general these days, it makes a lot of sense to continue porting the back catalogue of games to Nintendo Switch 2. After all, additional sales of prior games will help to fund newer titles, not just in the mainline series but also outside of it.
While Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios have confirmed it currently has no concrete plans to continue the story of Like A Dragon and Infinite Wealthโs protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, the studio is working on additional games.
Alongside Yakuza games, the studio is also working on Stranger Than Heaven, a new title that will โdiffer entirely in both scale and gameplayโ. Speaking to Game Informer earlier this month, Yokoyama explained that theyโre โitching to shareโ more details, but the game is still deep in development.
