PlayStation might be Tokon us for a ride as the upcoming PC release of its Marvel fighting game is blocked in over 130 countries. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, PlayStation‘s upcoming fighting game by Arc System Works, won’t be playable in a helluva lot of regions.

According to SteamDB, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be unable to be “activated or purchased” in a total of 132 regions via Steam. Te rather massive list includes countries such as Egypt, the Philippines, Cuba, Georgia, Jamaica, Monaco, Morocco, Vietnam, and many more.

The list of countries, and the sheer number of them, seems remarkably familiar to anyone who’s been paying attention to PlayStation releases on PC. In fact, it’s an identical situation to a prior PlayStation release on PC: Helldivers 2.

Back in 2024, PlayStation mandated that Helldivers 2 users sign into the game using a PlayStation Network account. This caused the game to be blocked in the same 132 countries, although that game’s saw existing users kicked out for no reason. Of course, fans rebelled with a slew of negative reviews and online complaints, which eventually led to the policy’s reversal.

Unfortunately, it seems that Sony has not learnt its lesson. Just two years after that debacle, the gaming giant is trying again to lock its games to a PSN account, blocking the open marketplace of PC from millions and millions of gamers. Even worse, fighting games are typically larger releases in a lot of these blocked countries compared to other genres, locking off the genre’s most passionate fans.

It doesn’t help that Sony is currently very unpopular at the moment. Despite much lower costs than competitors, PlayStation recently announced the end of physical game production for its games, which has sent fans into a fury, especially as it appears Sony has been fudging the numbers for the platform’s true physical/digital split when it comes to sales.

Alongside with the recent shutdown announcement of the PlayStation 3 and Vita storefronts, PlayStation is currently less popular than its ever been. Combined with the company’s consistent focus on live-service despite frequent failures, continued price hikes of PlayStation Plus, and studio closures and layoffs, PlayStation’s reputation is in the gutter.

Hopefully, like a lot of recent decisions, PlayStation’s bizarre push to block 132 countries from playing Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be reversed. Unfortunately, like a lot of recent decisions, that would require someone in management to have both a heart and a brain. Doesn’t seem likely, does it?
