Capcom’s 2017 horror soft-reboot Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has continued to be a massive seller ever since its release. Despite multiple new games since its release—including remakes of classic Resi titles—Capcom’s seventh mainline entry in the iconic horror franchise is still, to this day, unstoppable.
Revealed in Capcom’s latest financial report for the fiscal year ending March 2026, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has sold 15,936,000 units since its release in 2016. However, the most important part of this massive sales milestone is that the game continues to sell over a million copies every single year.
The first-person take on the Resident Evil series is now eight years old, but the game has already sold over 1 million copies in 2025. Despite a sequel in the form of Resident Evil: Village, this one game continues to stand out as a major hit every single year for Capcom.
According to the financial report, via Automaton, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has sold 1.14 million units in just six months—from April to September 2025. With this in mind, the game could even hit 2 million units again by the time the Japanese fiscal year ends in March 2026.
This will only be helped by the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 port of the horror game which launches alongside Resident Evil 8: Village, and the upcoming Resident Evil 9: Requiem. Unfortunately, all three games will be Game Key Card releases on the new Nintendo handheld on February 27, 2026.
While the long-term success of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is very impressive, other games from Capcom did sell more copies during this same six-month period. Devil May Cry V and its Special Edition sold a combined 2.134 million units, Resident Evil 8: Village sold 1.566 million and Resident Evil 4 Remake sold 1.266 million during this time.
Without a doubt, Capcom’s Resident Evil series is a massive seller for the Japanese gaming giant. Eight years on, Resi 7 is still selling more copies every six months than most games, and it seems to be showing no sign of stopping anytime soon.
