The brilliant indie and retro game platform Evercade is increasing prices of both cartridges and hardware. Starting in July 2026, users will have to pay more for games and systems coming from Evercade, although the price tweaks are significantly smaller than other platforms’ price hikes.
In a statement to fans, Evercade CEO Andrew Byatt explained that prices in the UK and mainland Europe are both changes. However, prices in the United States will not rise in unison due to the recent change in tariff reductions.
As a result of these changes, Evercade cartridgess will see a rise of £5 in the UK to £24.99 with no difference in price between standard and giga carts. In Europe, that price will shift from €24.99 to €29.99.Additionally, the Evercade Super Pocket, small handhelds with built-in games that support all Evercade cartridges will jump to £59.99 or €69.99.
“This is not a planned price rise, and it is not a decision we have taken lightly,” the CEO told fans in a recent blog post. “We have absorbed rising costs across manufacturing, components and freight for as long as possible, but this is no longer feasible.”
Evercade’s price hikes come as part of the ongoing global memory shortage. This shortage has caused the price of memory to skyrocket, the same memory found in both the Evercade hardware and their cartridges. Of course, due to the types of games Evercade runs, the capacity of memory is low, but the ongoing shortage still makes a dent. Unlike major players like Sony and Microsoft, it’s also harder for boutique chains to make major deals on memory prices.
Despite the price hikes to Evercade carts and the Super Pocket, other products won’t be increasing in price right now. At the time of writing, the XP-R, VS-R and Evercade Alpha SKUs will not increase in price at all. Additionally, the upcoming Evercade Nexus is not affected.
Byatt explained that the Evercade brand will continue to focus on “physical products, officially licensed games, curated collections”, and more. The brand’s latest release, Banjo-Kazooie, has just released in the form of a new Super Pocket handheld with never-before-released content.
