Harmonix’s Rock Band 4 will de-listed and removed from sale on the 10th anniversary of the beloved rhythm game. As of October 5, 2025, gamers will no longer be able to purchase a digital copy of the game for Xbox and PlayStation.

An announcement from Harmonix revealed to players that the tenth birthday of the game will not be a celebration, but instead a funeral. As music licenses for the base game’s soundtrack start to expire, the game will be removed from sale to avoid paying additional costs.

“The original licenses for the core soundtrack are expiring,” Harmonix told fans in an email. “Because of that, Rock Band 4 will be removed from the PlayStation and Xbox digital stores.”

Players who own the game digitally will still be able to download the game from their respective storefronts along with any DLC they own. Harmonix explained that DLC “songs will come down as they hit the 10-year mark, but anything you’ve purchased will remain in your library”.

“We’re so grateful for the passion this community has shown. From the team, it’s been a special experience to serve you with Rivals challenges, a super deep downloadable content library and a best in class band sim,” the studio explained. “If you’ve been meaning to grab a few last songs, now’s the time. Thanks again.”

While Rock Band 4 may be dead, the game’s format technically lives on in the form of Epic Games’ Fortnite. Following Epic Games’ acquisition of Harmonix, Fortnite Festival was quickly added into the live-service Fortnite video game, offering players the full Rock Band gameplay with an annoying Fortnite aesthetic.

Nevertheless, with the perseveration of Xbox One and PS4 games and DLC being significantly harder than prior generations, a large amount of Rock Band 4 may be lost forever. While Fortnite Festival may be the replacement, that core experience will be gone for anyone who hasn’t already purchased the game.
