Cronos: The New Dawn and Silent Hill 2 Remake developer Bloober Team has set to retro gaming community alight over assumptions that the Polish horror games studio is working on a remake of Rule of Rose.
A late-era PlayStation 2 horror game developed by Punchline, Rule of Rose is one of the most expensive games for the 26-year-old games console. Some sealed copies of the PlayStation 2 title sell for over $1,000.
Released in 2006, the game saw very few copies released over a moral panic over content that was never actually in the game. (Hey, we see that a lot on Twitter nowadays.) However, following a recent teaser of the Bloober Teamโs soon-to-be-announced horror game, many gamers assumed the team was hinting at a remake of the game.
โIf this is teasing a Rule of Rose remake by Blooper Team that would actually be insane,โ said popular Twitter account Radec in response to the teaser. To be fair, the teaser did include an image of a red rose, the studio is known for remakes, and the studio is firmly situated in the horror genre. As a theory, it did make sense.
Unfortunately, for Rule of Rose fans, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno has confirmed that the studio isnโt working on a remake of the PS2 game. In fact, the studioโs mysterious project isnโt a remake at all.
โNice guess, but no,โ Babieno said on his personal LinkedIn account. โIt definitely doesnโt refer to any remake.โ
Alongside the studioโs upcoming mysterious game, Bloober Team is actively working on a remake of the original Silent Hill. After its fantastic recreation of the second game, that same team is recreating Harry Masonโs original 1999 journey for modern consoles.
Very little is known about the studioโs upcoming projects, although they are working on multiple games simultaneously. Thereโs also no known release date for the upcoming Silent Hill remake, which is painful as I wish to wash my eyes of Return to Silent Hill as soon as possible.
