Saber Interactive chief creative officer Tim Willits has confirmed that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is “still in development”.

Originally announced in 2021, the upcoming KOTOR remake was originally in development at Aspyr Media, the developer behind the controversial Deus Ex remaster. However, the title mysteriously shifted developers after years of development.

The upcoming RPG remake has been kept under lock and key with complete silence surrounding the project. However, in a recent interview with IGN, Saber CEO Tim Willits confirmed that the game has not been cancelled and is still actively being worked on right now.

“Yes, it is still in development,” Willits said. “That’s all I can say,” he concluded, refusing to comment on any of the speculation surrounding the seemingly troubled project. The CCO also didn’t comment on any expected release time for the game.

I would just like to see, like, one more trailer at some point, you know?

The remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is currently being do-developed by Mad Head Games. Alongside working on the Star Wars game, the studio is also working on Saber’s Hellraiser: Revival, an utterly violent adaptation of Clive Barker’s film and book series. That game is set to release later this year.

While Aspyr Media is no longer working on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, the studio didn’t only plan to remake one game in the series. In a report by Game File, Lucsasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly confirmed that Aspyr was also planning “to do aa full remake of KOTOR II with modern art, modern gameplay”.

Alongside the KOTOR remake by Saber, original KOTOR director Casey Hudson is also working on his own brand-new RPG set in a new version of that timeline. Dubbed Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, Hudson has promised that the RPG will release sometime before 2030, but will it release before the original game’s remake?

As KOTOR stumbles around, there are also a slew of other Star Wars games in development… as always. One exciting project is Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a spiritual successor to Burnout that brings back pod-racing, Sebulba, Ben Quaadrinaros and more for a thrilling racing experience. That game launches later this year.
