Reports that Bethesda Game Studios is working on an official, unannounced Elder Scrolls game are, unfortunately, completely unfounded.
Following Xbox’s recent mass layoffs, many have been crawling LinkedIn and social media profiles of affected developers to hunt for any shred of detail retaining to Bethesda, The Elder Scrolls, and Fallout.
Earlier this week, multiple reports claimed that Bethesda isn’t just working on The Elder Scrolls 6. Instead, the reports claim the studio is working on another unannounced game in the fantasy RPG series based on the LinkedIn profile of a single laid off Bethesda Game Studios employee: Griffin DeClaire.
Following their departure from Bethesda Game Studios, DeClaire, the Associate Quest Designer updated their resume with new details regarding their work at the studio. Initially reported by Twitter user and self-proclaimed “VideoGame enthusiast” Timur222, it was claimed that there are “Two Elder Scrolls Games” in development.

This statement was reported by numerous outlets, including TwistedVoxel with the headline: “BETHESDA APPEARS TO BE WORKING ON AN UNANNOUNCED THE ELDER SCROLLS GAME ALONGSIDE TES VI”. TechPowerUp released a version of the article also with the headline: The Elder Scrolls Spinoff in Development Alongside The Elder Scrolls VI.
However, looking at DeClaire’s LinkedIn profile, it clearly states that they were working on an “unreleased” Elder Scrolls game, not an unannounced one. While working at the studio, the game developer “created and maintained internal documentation regarding large swaths of lore/design ethos for Unreleased Elder Scrolls Title” and was “involved heavily in the pitch/writing/quest implementation process for Unreleased Elder Scrolls Title”.
As it turns out, that “unreleased” Elder Scrolls game is, in fact, obviously, The Elder Scrolls 6, the long-awaited Bethesda RPG, not a secretive spin-off as others have reported. Currently this is the only title in full active development at Bethesda Game Studios alongside additional Starfield DLC and new Fallout 76 content. Fallout 5 is currently in pre-production.
We reached out to DeClaire who confirmed that their LinkedIn resume obviously referred to The Elder Scrolls 6, not any unannounced, secretive spin-off in the works at BGS. “To clarify, the posting is about TESVI. I was working directly on TESVI everyday in-engine before being laid off. Quite tragic, I really loved the work and was looking forward to seeing the fan reaction.”
DeClaire also confirmed that the prior outlets did not reach out for confirmation or comment prior or after reporting.
While fans may jump for joy at the prospect of multiple Elder Scrolls games in development, prior reports are simply unsubstantiated misreadings of a single worker’s resume. Furthermore, there is a wealth of difference between an “unannounced” title and an “unreleased” title, the former of which was not stated in DeClaire’s resume.
At the time of publication, it seems that only a single mainline Elder Scrolls entry is in development at Bethesda Game Studios, and that’s The Elder Scrolls 6. For more content set in the brilliant world of Tamriel, that appears to be the job of The Elder Scrolls Online which is returning to Skyrim for a new expansion in 2027.
