The much-anticipated follow-up to Universal’s extremely popular Super Mario Bros Movie has been officially announced: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Announced during the most recent Nintendo Direct, the new movie is an ambitious sequel to the Chris Pratt and Charlie Day animated movie by Depsicable Me studio Illumination.

Following leaks of promotional Old Spice soaps and a recent URL filing, Nintendo has confirmed the existence of the new movie prior to the 40^th anniversary of the Mario Bros. video game franchise.

“While the Super Mario Galaxy games are the inspiration for our movie, it will hold new surprises,” confirmed the movie’s producer.

The new movie will feature the return of the original film’s composer for a brand-new soundtrack that takes inspiration from the video games.

Universal’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will feature the return of Chris Pratt as Mario, Jack Black as Bowser, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and more.

At the time of writing, few details have been revealed regarding the upcoming Mario film. However, seeing as the film is based on the Galaxy series of games, we would expect the arrival of Princess Rosalina as well.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to release in April 2026.
