CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory have announced a brand-new expansion for The Witcher 3. Dubbed Songs of the Past, the new expansion will give players a new story focused on Geralt of Rivia prior to the release of The Witcher 4.
Announced on Twitter following a recent developer livestream of Blood and Wine, the long-rumoured expansion has finally been announced. “Medallion’s humming… that can only mean one thing! It’s time to announce The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past!” CDPR wrote on social media.
The upcoming expansion is being co-developed by Fool’s Theory, the team in charge of the upcoming remake of the original Witcher title. Additionally, the expansion will not release on last-gen systems including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Instead, this new story expansion will only release on platforms that support the game’s next-gen update: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. For Nintendo players, no Switch 2 version of the game has been announced. However, considering the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 runs on the handheld, it might come to the platform eventually.
“With new content coming to the game, we also need to update our system requirements to ensure smooth performance and compatibility going forward,” the developer announced. “These requirements will become effective starting from the next update.”
On PC, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the upcoming Songs of the Past expansion will have the following revised system requirements:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600, Intel Core i5-8400
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB
- VRAM: 6 GB
- RAM: 12 GB
- Storage: 70 GB SSD
- OS: 64-bit Windows 11
“These minimum requirements reflect how hardware capabilities and software usage have evolved since we last changed the system requirements,” CD Projekt RED wrote in a recent blog post. Additionally, the studio will “no longer test out games on Windows 10” and “HDDs will no longer be supported”. The game will also “exclusively run using DirectX 12.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past will release sometime in 2027. A new RED Stream will release on Thursday to reveal more details of the expansion.
