Bethesda is working on multiple Fallout projects, according to studio boss Todd Howard. While the long-awaited Fallout 5 is currently in pre-production at the iconic Western RPG studio, a number of other titles are also in development.
Likely including the years of additional content for Fallout 76, which FRVR confirmed earlier this year, Howard has attempted to calm the fanbase after the Bethesda head discussed the large disappointment of a lack of new Fallout video games.
Speaking to Game Informer, Howard said “Fallout as a franchise is the one that we’re still doing the most work in above anything”. Alongside continued updates for the mobile game Fallout Shelter and new content for the multiplayer game Fallout 76, Howard also revealed that there are “unannounced” projects in the works.
“Now, the majority of our internal team is on Elder Scrolls VI. We are doing other things with Fallout that we haven’t announced, and there’ll come a time for that,” the Bethesda boss told the outlet.
Of course, at least one of those projects is Bethesda’s worst-kept secret: Fallout 3 Remastered. In development at Virtuos Studios, the same team behind The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, the project is said to be in very early development and won’t be seen for years.
While leaks are always to be taken with a grain of salt, the existence of Fallout 3 Remastered was revealed in official Microsoft documents released by the FTC following the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard. With this in mind, the project is likely still happening, especially considering the massive popularity of the Oblivion remaster.
With Todd Howard now hooked on the high of shadow-dropping game releases, we likely won’t hear anything official about the upcoming remaster until it’s ready… which it likely won’t be until 2027.
Alongside development of The Elder Scrolls 6, which Howard confirmed won’t release next year, Bethesda is also still working on Starfield updates. Currently MIA at the time of writing, the studio has confirmed large updates to space travel and other additions should be coming to the game in a future patch.
