Blizzard’s World of Warcraft is one of the most popular MMORPGs of all time, despite being PC only. While games like Elder Scrolls Online have found brand-new audiences on console, Blizzard’s tent pole multiplayer game will be staying on PC for the foreseeable future.

With the upcoming Midnight expansion on the way and the introduction of player housing, which appears to be getting its own premium currency, it would appear that WoW is becoming more casual-focused for a little while. But is this the sign of an upcoming console rebirth? Absolutely not.

Speaking on the Unshackled Fury Podcast, World of Warcraft senior game director Ion Hazzikostas confirmed that Blizzard is not planning a console version of the MMO at this time. Instead, everything is focused on maintaining the game on PC with absolutely zero plans for Xbox, PlayStation or Switch versions of the game.

“To be fully transparent, there’s no reason for us to hide anything about this,” the game director said (thanks, GameSpot). “If we were actively working towards bringing WoW to consoles, or a bunch of other platforms, we’d be saying, ‘We’re actively working towards it, we know we have a lot of work to do but it’s a place where we want to land.’”

World of Warcraft on console has been a hot topic for over a decade now. (I can remember people saying it would be coming to Xbox 360 and PS3!) However, it seems that Blizzard is completely focused on keeping the game on PC, although the MMO is said to be playable on Microsoft’s upcoming next-gen Xbox… which is essentially a PC.

In the past, some World of Warcraft fans have even asked for a mobile version of the game, following in the footsteps of Jagex’s increasingly growing RuneScape. Nevertheless, Hazzikostas is pretty clear: WoW is a PC MMO for PC players, and nothing is changing that anytime soon. (Well, unless new parent company Microsoft demands it.)
