The gorgeous land of Springfield has left Fortnite as the game’s Chapter 6 broke reality apart with the arrival of the epic Fortnite Zero Hour event. This Ready Player One style cinematic moment saw a host of ambitious collaborations all come together, all for it to end with a terrible 6-7 meme that made every adult around the world groan simultaneously.
Heralding in the start of Fortnite Chapter 7 and the new Battlewood map, which will add Kill Bill and a host of other additions to the game, this new event wasn’t as hype as the The Big Bang event, but it was pretty cool.
The Fortnite Zero Hour event kicked off with a host of collaborations all vying to grab the Zero point shard from The Dark Presence. As Evil Homer, I kicked off the event fighting alongside Godzilla, Kong, Iron Man and more in a scene ripped straight out of Avengers: Endgame.
It was pretty damn cool, even if it played terribly. Fighting alongside a horde of other players, the event even saw the cast of K-Pop Demon Hunters pop in with helicopters so we could help shoot the Dark Presence from above. At one point, Kill Bill’s The Bride—voiced by an obviously aged Uma Thurman—turned up to help us get back to the fight on the back of her iconic motorbike.
After the event came to a close and the new chapter came into view, Fortnite Zero Hour ended with the worlds “Fortnite Chapter 6”, and an immediate “oh, for God’s sake” came out of my mouth.
“They’re going to do the f*****g 6-7 meme, aren’t they?” I said, turning to my partner. And then, as then a 7 faded into view before the 6 could fade away. “Oh, yeah, this is a game for children.” I remember as I locked away the memories of Springfield like Dick Halloran from The Shining. I’ve been fooled.
At the time of writing, Fortnite Chapter 7 is on its way with a host of new additions to the game, including its new map. And, for one brief moment, after experiencing the joys of The Simpsons collaboration to the point where I finished every challenge, I was excited to see what Epic’s Battle Royale game had next. I’ll just keep that for our trusty Fortnite writer.
Fortnite is currently undergoing downtime until Chapter 7 is actually live, but it should be back fairly shortly.
