Chinese action game Black Myth: Wukong has sold 30 million copies since its 2024 launch.

According to a recent document published by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, the first true AAA Chinese video game has sold an overwhelming number of copies worldwide.

According to the report, via WCCFTech, around half of the game’s sales were domestic. This means that around 15 million copies of Game Science’s action game were sold in Chinese regions.

However, the game has seen major international success as well with the remaining 15 million copies sold in other regions. Black Myth: Wukong saw a lot of hype from Western gamers, and has been seen as a flagship title for high-end PCs. In fact, the game has been bundled with new GPU and hardware purchases in the past as well.

The report also reveals that the majority of sales for the action game were on PC. Additionally, sales of the PlayStation 5 version of the game were reported as being quite strong with the game also available on Xbox Series machines as well. At the time of writing, there is no Nintendo Switch 2 version, although that might be possible in the future.

As a debut title from Game Science, Black Myth: Wukong has been a major success. Alongside massive sales, the game has also cultivated an active fanbase with many looking forward to the upcoming sequel, Black Myth: Zhong Kui.

Announced last year during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, the upcoming sequel is in early development. At the time of its announcement, Game Science explained that the game was “little more than an empty folder”, although the team plans to update fans on the game’s progress “every August 20th”, so we should expect more information in the coming months.

As for Wukong, development on that game has finished, despite fan calls for a DLC or expansion. Right now, all effort is being focused on the continued development of Zhong Kui, which has no release date target at the time of writing.
