Toby Fox’s brilliant indie RPG Deltarune has just released its long-awaited Chapter 5 update. Confirmed at the last Nintendo Direct, the latest chapter will be playable on June 24, 2026 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
While fans chomp at the bit for the upcoming Deltarune update, developer Toby Fox is still working on future chapters. With the game planned to have 7 chapters overall, Fox revealed that the game’s final chapter will start development before the end of the year.
Revealed on Fox’s official newsletter to fans, Fox explained that “Chapter 6 is developing well”. Fox confirmed that enemies are “mostly complete” and they’ve already “created all the basic gimmicks of the chapter”.
While Fox didn’t provide a release date for Chapter 6, the developer explained that it is coming faster than expected. “This Chapter is easier to make than the others, so the development is going quite fast,” the developer said.
As for Chapter 7, Fox confirmed that the development on Chapter 7 is more than likely to start sometime later this year. If Chapter 6 development proceeds well, Fox expects to start working on the game’s last chapter before the start of 2027.
“This sounds crazy, but it’s not unrealistic that some staff members may start working on Chapter 7 before the end of the year,” the developer said.
With this in mind, it’s more than possible that the conclusion of Deltarune will actually release sometime before the end of 2027. Fox first started working on the RPG back in 2012 with the first two chapters released in 2018 and 2021 respectively.
It’s been an incredible and long journey for Toby Fox and fans of the game, and it’s almost mind-blowing that the game’s conclusion is just around the corner. It’s not known what Fox will do after the conclusion of Deltarune, although fans will more-than-likely be there for whatever the developer does next.
