Battlefield 6 has launched as the biggest game in the long-running multiplayer series with fans instantly falling in love with the game’s epic destruction and rapid PvP combat. While all eyes are pinned on the game’s multiplayer, the brilliant shooter also comes with its own full-fledged single-player campaign.
At one point in Battlefield 6’s development, the campaign was headed up by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto at Ridgeline Games. While Lehto left the game mid-way through development, the iconic FPS developer has criticised EA for not crediting hundreds of talented workers who helped create the campaign.
“I’m disappointed to see that many of my former teammates from Ridgeline Games were not properly credited in the recent release of Battlefield 6,” Lehto told followers in a post on LinkedIn (spotted by IGN).
Lehto explained that his name is also amongst the individuals who have not been credited for their work on Battlefield 6 with a significant number of developers who were laid off during development having no proof that they worked on the game.
“These talented developers worked tirelessly for 1 to 2.5 years, building the foundation of the game, before I left voluntarily and the studio was subsequently shuttered,” the developer continued. “Despite their significant contributions, most who were laid off were relegated to a ‘Special Thanks’ section at the very end of the credits — and several were omitted entirely, including myself.
“Out of respect for my colleagues and the awesome work they poured into this project, I want to take a moment to properly recognize them — listing their names and roles as I would have preferred them to appear in the credits.”
Lehto explained that “game development is a team effort, and every contributor deserves fair acknowledgement” for their part in its creation.
Ridgeline Games was shut down in early 2024 after working on Battlefield 6 for over two years. Some developers were moved into Ripple Effect, the studio that would eventually finish the campaign, but many were laid off, and it seems the campaign that was originally in development was partly scrapped.
Since release, fans have noticed significant portions of pre-release trailers that show scenes absent from the final game. It’s not known which version of the campaign these scenes are from or how finished they were before launch, but considering the very recent reveal of Battlefield 6, it’s weird to see their inclusion in trailers just months before launch.
