Helldivers 2 devs have little hope for Game Awards 2025 win as they admit they’ve “had a few dips”

Helldivers 2 has been nominated for two awards at the annual The Game Awards (aka, the Geoff Awards): Best Ongoing Game and Best Community Support.

As far as multiplayer games go, Helldivers 2 has seen some staggering support over the past year, but it has seen some major slip-ups. Following the game’s Into the Unjust update last September, Arrowhead’s multiplayer game fell hard as the studio delayed content to get the game back into shape.

Since then, the game has massively improved performance, fixed bugs, and even shrunk its file size from over 150GB to just 23GB on PC. However, the team has admitted it doesn’t seem likely that the game will win its Game Awards nominations.

Speaking to fans on Discord, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani explained that the studio does have some hope that they’ll win, but it seems unlikely considering the competition the studio is facing.

“We’re sending a few of them [devs] to the Game Awards”,” Jorjani told fans on Discord. “They’ve done a solid job. Hope we win but competition is stiff. So many other great games.”

While fans praised the team for their strong dedication to listening to fan feedback, Jorjani explained that the game has seen a few dips, but there have been numerous highs during the past year. “Our highs have been high. But we also have had a few dips,” Jorjani told fans.

Sure, Into the Unjust did break the game for a while, but 2025 gave fans the horrors of the Meridian Singularity, the Invasion of Super Earth, the expansion of the Gloom, and more. Even right now, players are actively invading awe-inspiring magma planets for the first time in a fight to stop Automaton mining efforts.

However, it’s undeniable that Helldivers 2 slipped up right when it mattered for the annual Game Awards celebrations. The Into the Unjust update that broke the game came just before voting commenced which has likely swayed the outcome of the awards.

Nevertheless, even if Helldivers 2 doesn’t win, it’s absolutely one of the best ongoing games in our minds. While some games drop more content or bigger features, HD2 has an ongoing storyline fuelled by players, and that’s more rewarding than any other multiplayer game around right now.
