Warhammer 40,000 is going through a popularity renaissance as of late. Following the massive sales of video game Space Marine 2, there are more fans buying Warhammer miniatures than ever before, and that game already has a sequel in the works.
Alongside more games, such as the amazing-looking RTS Dawn of War 4, Amazon is working on a massive Prime Video TV series based on the franchise with the help of former Superman actor Henry Cavill.
Very little is known about the upcoming Amazon TV show adaptation of Games Workshop’s grimdark sci-fi universe. However, in a recent social media post, some fans believe that Henry Cavill is teasing an adaptation of Horus Heresy, a massive galactic war that started 10,000 years before the 41st Millennium and creates the Imperium of Man as we know it, or an adaptation of the Leviathan storyline.
In a recent social media post, Cavill shared an image of himself recovering from a leg injury suffered during the production of Highlander. In the second image in the Instagram post, Cavill shows an image of his leg resting on a coffee table next to numerous Warhammer 40,000: Horus Heresy lore and rule books.
While Horus Heresy does immediately draw the eye away from Cavill’s hench leg, there is also a Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan box set on the actor’s shelf, the current 40K setting focusing on the Ultramarines’ battle against the Xenos scum Tyranids.

Alongside the pictures, Cavill also included a caption of the 1875 poem Invictus by English poet William Ernest Henley. Some fans have used this poem as another hint that the TV show could be an adaptation of the Leviathan era as Saul Invictus is the iconic Captain of the Ultramarines’ 1st Company, and died at the Battle of Macragge during the First Tyrannic War.
So, we either have a Horus Heresy adaptation, a Leviathan adaptation, or something else we haven’t thought of yet. Whatever the case, Henry Cavill is still working on the Amazon Prime TV show, and both options seem extremely lavish and expensive. (If Horus Heresy is indeed being adapted, it may end up being Amazon’s most expensive show ever.)
There’s currently no release date for Amazon’s Warhammer 40,000 TV show, and it may be many years until we finally get to experience what Cavill and the showrunners are cooking. Nevertheless, it’s incredibly exciting to see the grimdark universe actually make the jump to our screens – some fans have been waiting almost four decades for this.
