After a lengthy development and years of speculation, Hollow Knight Silksong broke the internet when it launched last week. Team Cherry’s Metroidvania knocked out every major digital storefront: Xbox, PlayStation, Steam and the Nintendo eShop.

Post-launch DLC of some form is already in development for the newly-released Hollow Knight sequel that will likely add even more content to the sprawling indie game. Nevertheless, fans immediately flocked to the game’s launch version in the millions, and we now know exactly how many players jumped on board.

Via analytics firm Alinea Analytics, Hollow Knight Silksong brought in over five million players in just three days across PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo. While the game managed to take down all major platform servers at once, it seems that the majority of players for the game are on Steam.

The analysts at Alinea discovered that the game’s Steam audience makes up 78% of the overall market for the Metroidvania game’s three-day launch window. In this period, over three million players purchased the game via Steam which earned Team Cherry a reported $50 million in revenue across the three-day period.

At the time of writing, Team Cherry has not announced how many total sales Hollow Knight Silksong has achieved across all platforms, but it’s more-than-likely even higher than 5 million at the time of publication.

While the game has been criticised for some unsavoury difficulty across numerous points in the adventure, Silksong is mostly a critical darling. Now that review scores are coming in, critical acclaim is high, and audience scores are on the same end of the scale.

Additionally, fans have started to uncover a number of secrets hidden in the game, including a voice cameo from Stardew Valley creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone, and a secret cheat code to unlock Steel Souls Mode earlier than normal.
