As with any fighting game these days, Skybound Games’ Invincible VS already has some post-launch DLC planned, but the game may be supported longer than originally planned.

As the game nears launch, the developers behind the upcoming fighting game have revealed that they want to continue supporting the game with new characters, arenas, and more. However, any post-launch support from the developers requires support from the community.

Speaking to YouTube channel Kombat Kings, Invincible Vs Combat designer Reepal “Rip” Parbhoo explained that the game can’t be supported without investment from the community. Alongside addressing the game’s lack of co-op, the dev confirmed that players will have to support the game if they want years of additional DLC and updates.

“The honest answer to that question is just as long as we can,” Parbhoo responded when asked about the game’s lifespan. “But it really depends on how the community responds and accepts the game, right?”

The developer explained that “if nobody buys it, I don’t think we’re going to Season 10 [of updates]”, adding that “if 10 Bajillion people buy it then Season 10 becomes a possibility”. Right now, the developer explains that it’s impossible to know how the game will perform and how long it will be supported, saying that everyone will have to “wait and see” until launch time.

In that same vein, the studio behind Invincible VS have designed the game without esports communities in mind, which Parbhoo claims is a detriment to many fighting games releasing right now. Parbhoo explains that the team is focusing on “is this game fun? Do people want to play it? And then, if the esports team fills that afterwards, that’s great”.

The developer explained that the team is taking that same approach with the game’s post-launch content and support. First and foremost, Invincible VS must be a fun, good game on its own. However, if the game explodes in popularity, then the studio will think about what can be done with additional content down the line.

“If the game is well received and people like it and people want to plaay it more then, yeah, we want to do more with it as well, right?” they said. “It’s natural expectations, I feel like. If it does well, it does well, it’ll get more. If it doesn’t do well, you’ll get less. I think that’s kinda where it’s at.”

Invincible VS’ release date is just around the corner with mere hours until launch. Right now, two DLC characters have been announced for the game, although the fighter already features a pretty decently-sized cast of characters to play as.
