Konami’s first Metal Gear Solid game in 10 years, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, has officially sold 1 million copies across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

A remake of Hideo Kojima’s 2004 PlayStation 2 classic, the newly-released Delta project has managed to hit the major milestone within days of launch. As the first entry in a potential new slew of Metal Gear Solid games, the remake project has shown a promising first step towards a new generation of games.

In a press release sent by Konami, the studio explained that the quickly hit milestone “reflects the enduring popularity of the Metal Gear franchise, recognised as one of the most influential in video game history”.

“More than two decades after the original release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater the story, themes and gameplay continue to resonate with fans worldwide.”

Konami’s new remake project has been successful, but Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has not launched without issue. Alongside framerate problems across all consoles, the game has some annoying PC restrictions, and the title’s $200 Collector’s Edition has been blasted for its astounding low quality.

Additionally, the remake has continually drawn the ire of some long-time fans due to its extreme adherence to the original title with no sense of individuality. Some have also criticised the game’s standard colour scheme for its lack of style, although players can turn on a “Legacy Filter” to re-experience the original colours from the PS2 game.

Alongside Metal Gear Solid, Konami is also reviving other franchises in its catalogue, namely Silent Hill. The company’s next major release is the quickly approaching Silent Hill F, which launches on September 15, 2025.
