The team behind the ambitious Baldur’s Gate 3 mod Path to Menzoberranzan are looking to further expand their team as the custom campaign enters its next phase of development.
Path to Menzoberranzan is currently the largest in-development Baldur’s Gate 3 mod, rivalling the size of mod projects like Fallout London and Skyblivion. The mod, which aims to bring players back to the second game’s Athkatla with a new cast of fully-voiced companions, has already shown some fantastic progress, but the team is still looking for new talent to join the project.
In an update on their official Discord channel, the talented devs behind the Path to Menzoberranzan announced that they’re looking to expand their team as they enter the next phase of development. In the post, the team shared a number of volunteer roles from animators and storyboarders to testers and graphic designers.
“Hello creatures of Menzoberranzan! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and is off to a great 2026!” the post reads. “At this stage in development, we’re looking to expand our team across many departments.” If you’re interested to get involved in the project, head over to the Discord where the team are currently taking applications. We’ve put the available roles in a very handy table below:
| Focus area | Specific Roles Available |
| Art & Visuals | Animators, Technical Artists, Rigging Artists, Graphic Designers, VFX Artists, Cinematic Artists, Environment Artists, Storyboarders, Hair/Groom Artists |
| Design | Level Designer, Environment Designer |

It’s the first update from the PTM community this year, after revealing at tail end of 2025 that the tutorial level of the fan-made expansion “is starting to take form”. At the time they wrote: “We’ll be closing out our game design applications for the time being. With progress going smoothly on the tutorial, we’ve also started doing preliminary concept work for the next part of the game. Act 1 of our campaign will take place primarily in Athkatla, the City of Coin.”
The fact the team is now expanding, especially with roles for UX gameplay testers, suggests development is progressing well. While there’s no concrete release date yet, the Path to Menzoberranzan team did reveal there will be an alpha coming this year. Of course, the mod will only be available on PC.
The Path to Menzoberranzan team also revealed the project rivals AAA studios in terms of technical requirements and infrastructure: “To put it simply, we’re setting up the same kind of systems that AAA studios use for large RPGs,” the team posted last year.
We’ve had the pleasure of speaking to the team, who have built an incredibly special community on their Discord. Despite Larian moving away from Baldur’s Gate, it’s clear from the efforts the PTM team have shown over the last 12 months, just how much the game means to them – and we are truly in for something special.
Path to Menzoberranzan isn’t the only major custom campaign mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 in development. While there are a few smaller scale projects out there, another team is working on a full adaptation of the Dungeon of the Mad Mage adventure within BG3’s engine, which should be similar to PoM in size and scope.
There are few games that ever see mods of this scale, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently home to a few. It shows just how beloved the gameplay of Larian’s RPG is as fans are willing to spend thousands of hours not just playing it, but also creating in it.
