Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 is an absolutely colossal RPG, but it could’ve been even bigger. While the beloved turn-based adventure features hundreds-upon-hundreds of hours of content, fans have worked tirelessly to restore heaps of cut content into the game in the form of a brand-new mod.

Released on Nexus Mods entirely for PC players, the Ultimate Cut Content Restoration mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 aims to bring a “complete restoration of items and abilities” that were cut from the game into Larian’s RPG.

Released by modder MaxStrengthWizard on Nexus Mods, the mod largely focuses on items that were cut from Baldur’s Gate 3. With the mod installed, there are eight new summon items, twelve new consumables, six new rings, seven new amulets, three new cloaks, and a helluva lot of extra weapons and armour pieces to find and use.

“The primary thing that bothered me about the other restoration mods was that they didn’t include all of the possible items to include, always missing at least a couple of items,” the modder told fans on Nexus Mods. “The other issue is the implementation of the items. Some just dumped them all in the tutorial chest, some gave them all to a single or few merchants, and only a few took the extra step to have them dispersed throughout the game.”

Alongside the slew of new items, the modder has also reintroduced numerous cut abilities, class abilities and feats into the game. Players will now be able to use moves such as Observant Feat, an ability which was largely completed but simply not activated within the game.

While the mod does boast to be the most complete cut content mod around, the modder has declared that some cut content will not be restored by this mod. During development, some cut items were simply replaced with exact or very similar alternatives which would be a waste of development time. (Honestly, we agree.)

Additionally, while the mod may pride itself on being the “ultimate” cut content project, it doesn’t attempt to restore anything outside of items and abilities. During Early Access, Baldur’s Gate 3’s tutorial Nautiloid section was significantly larger than the final game, and other fans have attempted to restore that style of cut content. Another mod even restores some cut dialogue for Karlach in which she breaks the fourth wall.

For a game as huge as Baldur’s Gate 3, there’s a lot of cut content, and we likely won’t get a comprehensive mod that restores absolutely everything for a long time. Nevertheless, it is awesome to see fans work together to bring some of this content back, even if some of it was likely cut for a reason.
