EA’s Battlefield 6 boasts the biggest development team size in Battlefield history. However, despite having hundreds of developers continually working on the multiplayer FPS game, producer Alexia Christofi claims they can’t speed up the development of larger maps.
While Battlefield 6 saw the biggest launch of any game in the long-running series and even topped US sales charts to become the best-selling game of 2025, the producer claims that faster development of additional maps simply isn’t possible as they wouldn’t hit the bar of quality fans expect.
“Quality is at the core of everything we do,” Christofi told GamesBeat in a pay-walled interview. “There are worlds in which we release hundreds of maps, but they’re not fun. We never want to do that.”
The producer claimed that Battlefield 6 maps are releasing “on a cadence where we feel the maps are up to quality and we’re happy with how they play, the variety they give to the players”. However, the producer also explained that it is currently impossible for the team to make more maps due to a lack of resources.
“I completely empathise with players when they want more maps and more content,” they said. “They talk about that because they’re passionate about the game, passionate about the franchise. But we’re a team of a certain size. We don’t want to sacrifice quality.”
However, Battlefield 6 is made by one of the biggest development teams that EA has ever forged. Under the umbrella of Battlefield Studios, the ongoing game is still being actively developed by four teams: DICE, Criterion Games, Motive Studio, and Ripple Effect Studios.
In a blog post in 2025, EA boasted about the formation of Battlefield Studios, embracing the sheer size of the development team with studios that once worked on original games coming together to create the biggest Battlefield game ever. With over 700 employees at DICE alongside the hundreds of additional developers at other studios, it certainly doesn’t seem like a resource issue.
Since launch, Battlefield 6 has launched three additional maps alongside a Battle Royale mode. The main game’s next map, Hagental Base, is expected to launch on March 17. However, fans are still waiting for a true large-scale map to be introduced to the game as the game’s current roster of maps are still on the smaller side.
While Battlefield Studios has acknowledged the urge for bigger maps within Battlefield 6, with one currently being designed, there’s no release date for when fans can expect to actually play on bigger maps.
