Sandfall Games’ Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an incredible turn-based RPG with one of the most beautiful stories ever put to gaming. With over 4.4 million copies sold and the game’s success still blowing the mind of its creators, the RPG has been nominated for more Game of the Year awards than any other video game.
While the game’s creators are shocked enough, no person involved in the title is more surprised than Daredevil actor Charlie Cox, who provided the voice of Gustave. Every time the actor is asked about the game, he responds with shock and awe at its popularity, but fellow Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 actor Ben Starr doesn’t blame him.
Speaking in a recent episode of the Kit & Krysta podcast, Starr joked that someone should “please get undoubted millionaire Charlie Cox a free PS5” so that he could play the game. However, when it comes to the actor’s frequent confusion at the game’s rampant success, the actor explained that it’s simply due to the fact that the game was completed, released and became a sensation in a miniscule amount of time.
“I sympathise with Charlie [Cox] a lot, actually, because it cannot be underestimated the speed and efficiency with which Expedition 33 was made,” Starr explained. “So, him doing this game, and then it being released… I didn’t expect it to be this big, so he’s not gonna expect it to be this big.”
Starr also explained that they “think it’s so funny now, him constantly being asked about this video game that he’s going, “I, I, I don’t know!’” However, while Cox is constantly being asked by fans when he’s going to play the game, Starr doesn’t think he actually needs to experience Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, no matter how good it actually is.
“I don’t think he needs to play the game,” Starr told the podcast. “I hope that he does, I hope that maybe someone just shows him how good he is in this game.” Nevertheless, Starr explains that his co-star’s inclusion in the game is “kind of testament to the quality of the writing”, explaining: “he said yes. Like, how good is this game? Charlie Cox said yes!”
Now, Charlie Cox is up for a Game Awards nomination for his work in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and it’s deserved… although every performance is award-worthy in the game. As Starr says, hopefully, someone will at least show the actor how good his performance is in the game.
