Behaviour Interactive has announced that Dead by Daylight has become the “most-played horror game in history”.

The asymmetrical multiplayer game is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. After a decade of updates, crossovers, and more, the horror game is close to a major under-the-hood overhaul to hopefully last another ten years.

Behaviour has confirmed that it has no plans to create a Dead by Daylight 2 or a remake of the first game. Instead, the plan is to keep the ball rolling with new updates, more crossovers, and bolder mechanical introductions as time goes on.

In a statement to press, Behaviour Co-Founder and CEO Remi Racine explained that “initial forecasts predicted sales of around 300,000 copies”. Obviously, that’s far less than the multi-million sales of, say, Resident Evil Requiem. However, due to the game’s popularity, the game has brought in over “70 million players” over the past ten years.

“I’m astounded by how the game continues to reach new heights,” the CEO continued. “2025 was Dead by Daylight’s most successful year so far. We welcomes over six million new players and delivered record performance.”

Despite recent layoffs for Behaviour Interactive, Racine confirmed that 2026 has already been a record-breaking year for Dead by Daylight. Over the past twelve months, “the game’s revenues have increased by more than 50%”, the CEO said.

Racine admits that the long-term success of the multiplayer horror game is surprising. “For any game to ensure ten years is an achievement,” the CEO said. “To reach that milestone and still be growing is incredible. I deeply appreciate every one of the players who have supported us on this journey.”

Currently, Dead by Daylight is a collection of some of the most iconic horror franchises in film and gaming. Alongside its unique characters, the multiplayer game combines Scream, Alien, Stranger Things, Friday the 13th, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and more into a single package.

At the time of publication, the game shows no sign of slowing down with 2026 looking to be the biggest year yet for the game in terms of updates. Additionally, the studio is looking to possibly remake older, defunct chapters of the game for new and returning players, reviving old, archived content.

Dead by Daylight is currently available on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The game’s mobile version officially closed down in March 2025.
