Glen Schofield, the creator behind EA’s Dead Space franchise, has expressed a desire to make a game based on the iconic Alien horror franchise.

Alien, which is currently running in the form of the ongoing Alien Earth series on Disney Plus, has been a constant presence in the games industry. The last game in the series was the VR-only Rogue Incursion spin-off which is releasing a non-VR version later this year.

In an interview with PC Gamer, Dead Space creator Glen Schofield revealed that he “would love” to make a game set in the world of Alien. However, the veteran game designer would need to have full creative control over the project.

Additionally, Schofield, an avid supporter of generative AI, explained that he has used the controversial technology to generate “maybe 100 different aliens” over the past two years because he likes the series. Assumedly, this is to be taken as a positive.

“Let’s say I took on a licence. Which I really don’t want to do; I want to make my own. Let’s say somebody came to me and said, ‘We’re going to give you the Alien licence.’ Immediately I could show you, I don’t know, maybe 100 different aliens I’ve made in Midjourney over the last two years, just because I like it. So yeah, I would love to make an Alien game,” the game developer said.

“I have to own the creative,” he continued. “That’s not even negotiable. Because I won’t make a great game unless it’s mine and I’m so ingrained in it—then I will give you 130%.”

Schofield’s last project was The Callisto Protocol, an underwhelming, melee-focused horror game that was originally set in the PUBG universe. The game saw mixed-to-positive reception, but failed to sell as well as expected, and was overshadowed by EA’s extensive remake of the original Dead Space for modern hardware.

As for Alien, there are a number of games in the series in the works – there always is, isn’t there – including the long-awaited Alien Isolation 2 at Creative Assembly. It’s not known exactly what the anticipated sequel will entail, or when it will actually released, but as a follow-up to one of the greatest horror games of all time, we hope it’ll be fantastic.
