Diablo 4 is ramping up for a major update in the coming months. After the release of Season 10, developer Blizzard is working on a major update that appears to be overhauling damn near everything in the massive ARPG.
As the studio prepares for the game’s next major expansion, which appears to be adding the Paladin class, Diablo 4 community director Adam Fletcher has prepared fans for some of the biggest changes the game will ever see.
Speaking to fans on social media, Fletcher confirmed that the next PTR update for the game is coming “a bit earlier than normal” due to the sheer number of changes coming to the game in the near future.
“There is a lot of big items to cover including Masterworking/Tempering changes, Combat & Renown updates + more,” Fletcher told fans on X, also known as Twitter. The community director also explained that “this PTR will be important” with Blizzard hoping for as much feedback as possible this time around.
In additional responses to fans, Fletcher confirmed that “a lot will be changing” with “more details in the next couple weeks” regarding what those changes actually are. However, it seems that one system is still here to stay in its current unsatisfying form: reliquaries. When asked about the system, the community director said that feature is “”still being discussed” at the time of writing.
Blizzard has made it known for a while that some sweeping changes are coming to Diablo 4 in the near future, ahead of its next major expansion in 2026. Earlier this year, Blizzard showed off some major changes to the game to content creators, and responses have been extremely positive.
“Just got off a call with Blizzard about the stuff they are cooking up for the next #Diablo4 Expansion,” YouTuber Lucky Ghost said earlier this year. “There are some MASSIVE changes / HUGE new features. They’ve got some big ambitions with this one. I can’t share specifics yet but can say a lot of people are gonna be excited!”
While Diablo 4 is a fun game, it has suffered from a number of core issues since its release, largely involving itemisation and its post-launch seasonal strategy. At the time of writing, it’s not known exactly what Blizzard will charge for the game’s upcoming major overhaul, but should we expect something similar to Diablo 3’s Reaper of Souls upgrade?
